Berrys ranked Outstanding in RICS audit

Published August 25th, 2015

Property, business and planning specialists Berrys has been ranked Outstanding following an audit of its clients’ accounts.

The audit was carried out by accountants appointed by the Royal institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which makes random checks to ensure quality control amongst its surveyor members.

“We are obviously extremely delighted to get Outstanding in our audit,” said Graham Bowcock partner and head of property management at the Northwich office of Berrys where all clients’ accounts are handled.

“As a member of RICS we have to abide by strict rules for handling our clients’ money and can expect a random audit at any time,” he explained.

“The auditors went all through our client accounting procedures, checking documents and analysing our books and processes .

“We have never failed an audit but it is particularly rewarding this year to be recognised as outstanding and it is good news for our clients who can be assured that their money is safe in our hands.”

The outstanding accolade sets Berrys apart from other organisations, some of whom are not registered.

Letting agencies are unregulated, they don’t need to be qualified and they don’t need to protect their clients’ money.

“As a RICS-registered agent we are audited and we have to protect money in individual client accounts at the bank, we cannot use the money for any reason without a client’s permission,” Graham said.

“We have to have an audit trail of all the money and our experienced client account manager Sue Sandbatch is fully qualified to ensure money is handled correctly.

“Farmers and property owners can be assured that if they use Berrys their money is protected and safe,” he added.
