New planning consultant appointed at Berrys

Published August 9th, 2016

Expanding property, business and planning group Berrys has appointed experienced town planner Samantha Hammonds as a planning consultant based at the Kettering office.

Samantha joins Berrys’ East Midlands Planning team having previously worked for 14 years as a local authority planning officer, primarily in development management.

She has been a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 2005 having been awarded a post-graduate diploma in Urban Planning from Oxford Brookes University in 2004, following her undergraduate degree in Environmental Management at Leeds University.

“We are delighted to welcome Samantha to our planning team,” said Stuart Thomas, Berrys’ head of planning.

“Demand for our planning services continues to grow and Samantha has extensive experience in all aspects of development management including pre-application consultations, permitted development advice, formal applications for planning permission, prior notification and listed building consent; and planning appeals by both written representation and as expert witness at public inquiry,” he said.

Her case work has been wide and varied as in addition to residential proposals of all scales up to 450 dwellings, she has been involved in some interesting commercial proposals such as car testing facilities, animal breeding centres, rural education and visitor centre, peak power generation plant, solar farms, fishing lodges and holiday lets.

This will be extremely useful in her role at Berrys as changes of use of agricultural and commercial buildings under permitted development are a growing work area for the firm.

“We now have a team of 12 planning professionals employed across our six offices, giving us the capability to provide clients with all their planning requirements, whatever the project,” said Stuart.

A planner by day, Samantha  is a budding actress by night as outside work Samantha spends most of her spare time rehearsing and performing in amateur musical theatre productions in the Kettering area.
