A unique opportunity to purchase a former place of worship has arisen with the sale of Thrapston Methodist Church in Northamptonshire.

The Victorian Church has come on the market through Berrys with a guide price in excess of £125,000.

Situated in the centre of the historic town of Thrapston, nine miles east of Kettering, the former Methodist Church has a wealth of original features and offers potential for re-development, subject to obtaining the necessary planning consents.

The characterful property is of brick construction under a tile roof and has a date stone stating a construction date of 1885.

The internal accommodation extends to approximately 286m2 (3,079 sq ft) organised generally across two storeys.

“This is an extremely interesting property with a wealth of original features including a vaulted ceiling which provides scope for a further floor to be added, subject to relevant consents,” said Kamil Ciesluk, agency coordinator at the Kettering office of Berrys.

“The building falls under D1 Places of Worship of the Town & Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (as amended) but has great potential for re-development so we are advising interested parties to check the suitability of their own use via the local authority, East Northamptonshire Council,” he said.

The town of Thrapston has a population of around 6,500 people and offers a wide range of facilities, shops and amenities. The town is served by a Primary School with secondary education provided at the nearby Prince William School, Oundle.

The town hosts a historic farmers’ market on first Saturday of every month as well as Thrapston Livestock Centre with sales taking place on Thursdays and Saturdays. The property is located close to the town centre and directly across the road from the Livestock Centre.

Viewing is strictly by appointment only, telephone Berrys on 01536 532376.
