Shropshire surveyor joins elite band

Published November 15th, 2016

A Shropshire chartered surveyor has a new qualification under her belt, becoming one of an elite band of property professionals to hold dual chartered surveyor and town planner credentials.

Mandy Seedhouse, planning and environmental consultant at Berrys, has just gained full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) after completing a long and complicated application which included case studies and assessments.

“Mandy is now in a very elite band – this is a great achievement of which we are very proud,” said Matthew Anwyl, managing partner of Berrys.

“It is a reward for all her hard work and gives her a fantastically rounded view on the property world we live in,” he added.

Mandy joined as a graduate surveyor at the Shrewsbury office of Berrys 16 years ago after completing a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management at Harper Adams University. Gaining rounded experience in rural professional work, she soon became a full member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers.

She has more than 10 years’ experience in planning and environmental work, project managing and obtaining planning permission for a wide range of projects ranging from intensive and large scale agricultural units to commercial and residential property and tourism projects.

“It was a natural progression to apply to become a member of the RTPI,” said Mandy.

“I had to complete a detailed application to prove that I had more than 10 years’ experience in planning work which involved taking elements from my qualifications and drawing on experience at work. I had to submit four case studies spanning at least 10 years and also critically assess them plus produce a professional development plan.

“It is definitely advantageous having the two qualifications as I can draw on my  understanding of land and property issues when advising on planning issues and vice versa to give a broader service to clients,“ she added.

Congratulating Mandy, Stuart Thomas, Berrys’ head of planning said: “We have 13 planning professionals employed across our six office and Mandy is an important member of that team, helping us to offer clients a complete planning service, whatever the project.”
