Councils able to increase planning fees by 20% this month
Published January 8th, 2018
The Government has announced that fees for all planning applications are to increase by approximately 20% at the end of January. The application fee for a standard change of use or a new dwelling will increase from £385 to £462. The legislation states that all additional income must be re-invested into planning departments in order to improve the service offered by planning authorities.
This new legislation allows fees to be charged for new Permission in Principle applications; these will be charged at £402 for each 0.1 hectare of sire area. Planning application fees will also now be payable where local planning authorities have made a direction withdrawing permitted development rights, or where permitted development rights have been withdrawn by a condition imposed on planning permission.
The minimum fee is now £96, instead of £80, and the maximum fee has increased from £250,000 to £300,000.
The changes made by the Regulations only apply where an application is made on or after 17th January 2018.
