Retail sales show highest growth in over a decade

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) have released figures showing October as recording the fastest year on year growth in more than ten years with Halloween and winter temperatures both contributing to this positive news. The cooler weather gave consumers their cue to start fitting themselves out for the winter and supermarkets performed well in the lead up to Halloween. Compared to October 2015 the amount spent in retailers increased by 6.6% and in terms of quarterly growth we saw the 34th consecutive rise in sales despite anxiety over Brexit and inflation.
Separately, one of the annual signals that the festive season has begun saw the John Lewis television advert launched on November 10th. ‘Buster the Boxer’ has reportedly (as per retail specialist, Summit) seen trampoline sales rise massively and online searches for Boxer dogs has followed a similar pattern!
