Published October 11th, 2016

Farmers and landowners who have invested in an efficient and financially sound renewable energy scheme that’s been operational for 12 months or more, should enter the Energy Now Awards 2017.

To be in with a chance of winning £500, apply online: The window for entries is short, so don’t delay. The final deadline for submissions is December 9.

The renewable energy industry awards for the agricultural and rural sectors will be announced at the Energy Now Expo 2017 with a combined prize pot of £3,000 up for grabs.

One of the three judges is Dr Jonathan Scurlock, the NFU renewables advisor, who is positive about rewarding farmers who showcase successful renewable energy operations.

“The NFU is pleased to champion innovative, forward thinking farmers, and the Energy Now Awards reward best practice as well as providing a knowledge sharing platform, which is key to the further expansion of land-based renewable energy,” he said.

“Agricultural and rural businesses are making a substantial contribution to the growth of the renewables sector. We are delighted to see a great variety of these enterprises integrated into the rural economy, enabling farmers, growers and other businesses to manage their energy costs and enhance their productivity. Of course it is also important that such projects use and distribute energy efficiently, and realise a wide range of environmental benefits.”

The awards will recognise passionate and ambitious business minded people from each of the seven renewable sectors. So, if you have a business structure which successfully incorporates renewable energy in any of the following categories, you could be in with a chance of winning, with a £500 cheque on offer for each category:

  • Best AD and biogas scheme
  • Best biomass scheme
  • Best heat pump scheme
  • Best solar scheme
  • Best hydro scheme
  • Most carbon neutral scheme
  • Best wind scheme

If you or someone you know has renewable scheme which is benefiting the business by using energy as efficiently as possible, it’s time to celebrate their success.

The award ceremony will take place at the Energy Now Expo event on February 8 and 9, 2017. To find out more about the event and register online visit or call 01293 854405.
